Amid life’s ups and downs, there’s one thing communities (and buyers) always value: a kind neighbor.
Ever felt the stress of tough neighbors, tricky negotiations, or hidden problems in a home deal? It’s a common part of real estate, which is often seen as business, contracts, numbers, and transactions. The reality is that real estate is also about people, and people thrive where peace and kindness are present.
I was reminded of this recently when I saw one of my clients wronged by their neighbors. Instead of retaliating, they responded with peace. The neighbor hasn’t yet reciprocated, but my client sleeps well at night. There’s wisdom in that approach. In the Gospel of Mark, we are instructed to love our neighbors, and that commandment applies directly to the way we live and, yes, even the way we handle real estate.
Here are three key areas where peace matters most in the real estate industry.
1. Better relationships with neighbors. Peace starts at home. Neighbors see both your strengths and flaws, just as you see theirs. Choosing to respond with patience even when it’s hard creates healthier, happier relationships. Extend peace, and more often than not, it comes back to you.
“Treat others better than you’d want to be treated; that’s how real estate should work.”
2. Gain the community’s respect. Peace goes beyond your property line. Respecting and caring for your community, whether that’s keeping it clean or lending a hand, builds a stronger neighborhood. Small acts of kindness, like clearing a sidewalk, create lasting value and make a place where people truly want to live.
3. Peace with your seller or buyer. No home is perfect, which is why honesty matters. Full disclosure builds trust and prevents conflict. I once sold a house sitting on a concealed township dump. By being upfront, we found the right buyer and closed the deal. That experience taught me a simple truth: anything can be sold if the truth is told.
Peace in real estate isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a practice that works. My team at RE/MAX Masters has built our business on the simple motto: “A Tradition of Trust in NWO Real Estate.” That trust is rooted in biblical principles: always tell the truth, and treat others better than you’d want to be treated.
The real estate market is always changing, but these principles never do. We’re committed to helping families buy, sell, manage, and grow their real estate holdings with honesty, care, and peace of mind.
