Here are five things that we’re thankful for in our local market.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but thankfulness is still on our minds. Today we’ll share five things that we’re thankful for here in the northwest Ohio real estate market.

1. Water. I just returned for a week-long tour of the Four Corners in Arizona with his wife. It’s a great place to visit that we highly recommend, but there’s little water in Arizona. Here in northwest Ohio, we don’t have to test for wells or spray water on the ground in order to grow crops or grass. Instead of a Grand Canyon nearby, we have a Great Lake! Water makes real estate a little easier for us.

2. Land. Most of our land here is buildable, meaning that there’s nothing between you and building property except zoning, finding power, and going through the proper government channels. Throughout Arizona, there was just so much unusable land that couldn’t be reached with power, water, or roads. We’re thankful for affordable and available land.

“Having plenty of water makes real estate a little easier for us.”

3. Affordable housing. Every quartile of the houses in northwest Ohio is lower than the national average. Many people come here from overseas and other populous places in the US like New York, California, and New Jersey. The expensive homes in our area pale in comparison to the expensive homes in major metropolitan areas.

4. Relatively good government. I’m excluding Toledo from this, with their continual idiocy in devaluing rental property and terrorizing investment property owners. But the rest of the suburbs are well run; there’s generally no corruption and the people in charge are honest. That allows us to have a better place to live in.

5. The water crisis hasn’t hit us yet. Because there are many federal and state rules, there are many old pipes and only a couple of cribs to pull the water out of Lake Erie. That’s causing the price of water for homeowners to relentlessly increase. I’m merely thankful that it hasn’t fully hit us yet, but it’s coming, so I encourage my clients to prepare and budget for it.
